Road blocks often lead to a smoother path

I am writing this post from Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.
Today was COMPLETELY unexpected to say the least.  Thursday morning we went to the US Embassy hoping to have our interview and hear that our Adam Walsh had been cleared.  We prayed that this would lead to our originally planned departure on Friday p.m. with VISA in hand.  Well, our plane is currently boarding and I am no where near the airport.  God had a different plan.  What we thought was a frutrating road block with a not very satisfying explanation, has turned out to be His perfect provision and protection from what could have been a tragic collision.
Aliyah's low grade fever back in Kigali hovered around 99 and though I didn't like that, I wasn't too concerned because she was teething and under a great amount of stress.  Surely this was just normal.  Also, she had a cough which led to a runny nose and further congestion.  But it was just a cold that she must have caught from all of the other sick babies in the cribs ajacent and connected to hers in the orphanage.  Her spirits have only been improving so a super sick baby was simply not on my radar.  We've been giving her medicine for her congestion and thought we'd get her home ASAP and on to Dell Children's for a super thurough examination quite unlike the 5 minute one we received here at the the Migration clinic.

This morning we knew that we would not be headed to the US as hoped so we thought we would have time to see a Dr.  My mom had some contacts from a friend in the US who used to live in Nairobi and who recommended a Dr. Wangai.  He was extemely kind and let us in with no real appointment.  By this time Aliyah's fever had spiked significantly to somewhere around 104.  She was MISERABLE and VISABLY very sick.  The Dr. looked at her and listened to her lungs and declared that this baby is very very sick.  He said she had a serious case of Pnuenmonia, Bronchitus, and ear infections.  He then touched her arm and prayed over her.  Wow!

CAN YOU IMAGINE HER ON AN AIRPLANE TONIGHT??  When the Dr. heard that we had planned to travel today he said, "OH NO, she would not have made it!"

Is GOD GOOD???  We see this road block as God's complete kindness and grace and mercy on sweet Aliyah.  Within an hour the Dr. had secured us a private suite (she would otherwise have been in a room with 6-8 other sick and crying babies) with an extra bed, crib, catering, internet and for goodness sake, reliable internet.  It's our best digs yet.

That said, Aliyah is still very sick!  She has been given a chest xray, had blood drawn...EXCRUCIATING for us both, been given lots of yucky medicine, and worst of all, given an antibiotic and liquids intraveniously.  Aliyah was NOT having it!  Even under my hold, she was able to reach across and grab the needle, dislodging it and messing up the line so that we had to remove it.

After that she was a new woman.  Almost rejoicing to the point that we wondered at what exactly they put in her medicine.  Seriously, she BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS LIKE A WILD WOMAN!  Finally she has fallen asleep though has again spiked to 104.5 We are not out of the woods yet.  (and yes, I just called the nurse!!)

The Dr. has told us that this is a very strong antibiotic as he hopes this will clear up before our new flight on Monday (which by the way is a MUCH BETTER flight).

Truly, there was a point today that I considered the thought that we could lose our baby.  IF God had not stopped us in our tracks, maybe we would have.  But also think of this.  What if she was still in the orphanage?  I am sooo blessed to be sitting here in this hospital with the most beautful people.  Our little girl is in the hands of an Almighty God who cares very much for the orphan.

Your prayers are very much appreciated!
